James is from Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Woodlawn High School. He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches before transferring to Louisiana State University in Shreveport where he graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree. He then attended Northwestern State University in Shreveport and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. James worked for 20 years as a Registered Nurse, mostly in Emergency and Critical Care Departments. He then attended LSUS where he recieved a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, and later received a Master’s degree in Business Administration. James has been a resident of Stonewall, Louisiana since 2014 and attends Salem Baptist Church with his wife of 20 years and their two children.
